The following is from the City of Lead:
Over the next several weeks truck traffic past the high school and middle school will readily increase as the road surfaces are installed on the Houston Street project. There will be concrete trucks and asphalt haulers on a regular basis. The primary impact to the schools will be in the morning as the students arrive. We’ve asked the contractors to be cognizant of the exposures in the morning. Work on surfacing usually begins before or at 7:00 AM to allow a full day of construction. Afternoon school traffic should be minimally impacted as the day’s hauling (for the most part) will be complete and the crews will be working the street surfaces. All trucks will be going by the schools, up and around Summit Street, during this phase of construction. Chief Wainman and the Lead PD will try to have a presence in the area (especially near the highway) to assist and be visual during the mornings. This haulage may start as soon as next Monday (9/30). The current contract calls for the completion of the road surfaces to be done by Oct 15.
