This month, juniors and some seniors had the opportunity to attend the College Fair held at Spearfish High School. The college fair brought in a variety of different recruiters from different colleges. The colleges ranged from Minnesota, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and even as far as Arizona.

“The college fair provides area students with a glimpse of what some of the higher education opportunities are and hopefully get students thinking a bit beyond high school and what they may do…” Mrs. Rhonda Britzman, school counselor said. This fair gave students the chance to obtain information about different schools, share their information with colleges, and get a look at college life.

Students and teachers agree that this was a beneficial experience for the upperclassmen. Junior Ethan F.  noted, “It gave us a lot of options for college and to get our name out to the schools, and to learn about the school locations and offers. It helped me think about the other options after high school and what there is out there.”

The recruiters at the fair used a system called StriveScan, as a way to easily learn about students with a simple scan of a barcode. This provided the schools with a way to contact potential students about opportunities. “I think the college fair is beneficial because it exposes the students to a wide variety of options, from four-year universities, tech schools, the military, and even in and out of state schools,” Britzman added.
