Something amazing is coming to Lead-Deadwood!
During the week of November 16, Lead-Deadwood School District students will have the opportunity to make live radio contact with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station through the ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) program.
ARISS gives students around the world the chance to speak directly with astronauts in space using amateur radio. During our contact, students will ask questions live while the ISS passes overhead, giving us just a few unforgettable minutes to connect our community with space.
This is an especially exciting milestone because it will be South Dakota’s first contact with the International Space Station through the ARISS program.
We will not know the exact date and time of the contact until approximately one week beforehand, so stay tuned as we get closer!

Beginning this school year, the Lead-Deadwood School District Business Office will be closed daily from 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. This time will be used for staff lunch and a brief period of uninterrupted work time.
