Mrs. Kelly Bachand has chosen to pass the Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light on to Mrs. Jennifer Scott this week! “I would like to pass the Shining Light to Ms. Jen this week. I appreciate that Ms. Jen always makes things fun in the classroom. She was very welcoming when I started. I want to thank her for all that she does.”

Update for the C team basketball tournament in Spearfish this Saturday, Feb. 10th: 9:00 - Girls C team vs. Sturgis (if we win, we play at 11:10...if we lose, we play at 12:15) 11:10 - Boys C team vs. RC Christian 2 (if we win, we play at 3:30...if we lose, we play at 1:20) Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Our MSBB game on Monday, Feb. 12th vs Newell will be only a 7th grade game - Newell only has a 7th grade team. Game time is still 4:00 in gym 2 at the high school. Mr. Nepodal

A big Thank You to Frank Pavich for the donation of an amazing wrestling mat! Frank is the founder of Black Hills Nationals Wrestling Tournament and Camps Bringing quality wrestling tournaments and camps to the Black Hills of SD since 1992. Come out to support our Digger Wrestlers February 8th at 5:00pm during the home triangular and see the new mat! The home match is also Parent/Senior Night. Go Diggers!

Just a quick note on Saturday, Feb. 10 events: Our C team boys and girls teams are playing in the Spearfish Tourney this Saturday - our girls first game is at 9:00 and our boys 1st game is at 11:10. They will get a 2nd game as well but time will be based on how their first game goes. Our GBB JV and Varsity will be playing at home vs. Little Wound on Saturday with the JV game at 4:00 followed by the Varsity game at approximately 5:30. Our BBB varsity team will be playing Redfield at 10:00 AM as part of the Belle Fourche Classic. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Snowball Dance! February 9th - Gym 2 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm $5.00 per person

This week, Mr. Bill Snow passed the Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light on to Mrs. Kelly Bachand. “Miss Kelly wears many hats in our district. She is a para for Early Childhood, she is the van driver, she delivers mail between our buildings and she has other countless duties. Every day, Miss Kelly shows up and does this with a smile!”

Quick reminder that our Evening for the Arts will be tonight - Monday, Jan. 29th - starting at 6:30 at the Homestake Opera House in Lead! Please come out and support our student artists as they perform in Oral Interp, One Play, Choir and Band plus take a look at the student art pieces on display in the lobby! Mrs. Kim Ostwald has chosen to pass the Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light on to Mr. Bill Snow this week! “I am picking this person because he shows a shining light every day. He goes above and beyond his duties without complaining. He’s done a lot over the years on his own time and he’s always the first to help. He’s the best boss ever, Mr. Bill Snow.”

Schedule update for Tuesday, Jan. 23 - our HSWR triangular with Moorcroft and Sturgis JV will now start at 4:00 due to the number of matches that will be held. Originally, it was scheduled for 5:00 but we have moved it back to start at 4:00. Order of matches will be Lead-Deadwood vs. Moorcroft...Moorcroft vs. Sturgis JV...and ending with Lead-Deadwood vs. Sturgis JV. Once we start at 4:00, we will roll the schedule. See you on Tuesday! Reminder that we will be having our One Act Play presentation for the community in our school theater tonight...it will start at 6:00. They perform at the Region meet this Wednesday as well in Belle Fourche - that meet starts at 9:00 and we perform at 2:15 that afternoon. Come out and support the Diggers! Mr. Nepodal

The middle school boys basketball game that was to be played last night vs. RC Christian at home has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 5th. Games will be played at Lead-Deadwood schools in gym 2 starting at 4:00. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Mrs. Amanda Bender is passing the Lead-Deadwood Shining Light on to Mrs. Kim Ostwald this week! “I am passing this on to a person who has an amazing work ethic and while most of their work seems like it’s behind the scenes you absolutely know when they aren’t there. The quality of work they do is unmatched – They’re the kind of person who you feel like can’t be replaced – like another person isn’t going to come in and do as good a job as they do. Besides being awesome at their job, they show kindness to staff by asking about how they’re doing. They are kind to the students and also hold them accountable in kind and respectful ways. I’m so grateful for this person because their small encouragements and kind words keep me going. And even though they have threatened to steal the lantern if it gets passed to them, I’m taking the risk because Kim deserves the recognition!” Congratulations, Kim!
