Congratulations to our Oral Interp team for finishing off a successful season at the State Meet this past weekend! Special congrats goes out to Briar Rose for earning a Superior Rating for her Poetry reading - Outstanding!! Others who were close to earning that rating were our Reader's Theater group and Mariana Pitlick for her Serious Prose Presentation. Great job Diggers! Mr. Nepodal

Mrs. Nancy Mertens has passed the Lead-Deadwood Elementary School Shining Light on to Mrs. Larissa Oyen this week! "Larissa Oyen is a Shining Light in our school because she has such a heart for kids. She considers EVERY student in our building HER student. When she is not busy working with kids in her room, she walks around the school and helps out in other classrooms.”

There will be a Holiday Open House for the public at the Digger Depot (High School Student Store) prior to the choir and band concerts on December 4th and 11th, 5:00-7:00 p.m. This is a great time to see the work of our HS business classes, while taking in a great concert, featuring the talent of our Lead-Deadwood musicians. The Digger Depot will have special holiday themed drinks, stickers, cards, and other merchandise, including NEW, made to order Digger gear. The Depot accepts cash and card payments.

Just a reminder that our Oral Interp team will be presenting their pieces tonight - Nov. 27th - at the Homestake Opera House in Lead. Show starts at 6:00 - there will be a free will donation box as well to raise funds for the program. Come out and support our performers and watch some talented kids in action at the Opera House! This week's shining light, presented by Mrs. Becky Kosters, goes to Mrs. Nancy Mertens. "As I am new to the elementary school this year, Mrs. Mertens has made me feel at home from my first day here. She is supportive, welcoming and flexible. She is a true blessing to LDES."

Honor band tomorrow! We leave tomorrow at 8:10am. Make sure to bring nice clothes to the concert and enough money for lunch and supper. Just a reminder that our MS girls basketball game with Oelrichs originally scheduled for Monday, Nov. 20th was cancelled due to their school not having a middle school team this year. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Extra Extra!! The Fall Play is this weekend! Fall play performance of the family-friendly comedy "The Alibis" Friday and Saturday, November 17th and 18th, at 7 pm in the high school auditorium. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for students; or a food pantry item.

The Lead-Deadwood School District currently has 10 remaining doses of the student flu vaccine. If you're interested, please get in touch with the School Nurse at 605-717-3884.

MS Girls Basketball has a schedule change. Our game with Newcastle scheduled for Dec. 14th has been cancelled (conflict on their end) and replaced with Rapid City Christian on that same date. 7th grade at 4:00, 8th grade at 5:00. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

This week, Ms. Kayla Peplinski has chosen Mrs. Becky Kosters to receive the Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light. “Mrs. Kosters has worked really hard at creating a fun and engaging environment to help students learn new and challenging things while helping them find a new love for science. It has been an interesting time trying to add this new class into everyone's schedule, but she has done so with grace. I know my kids are always asking, "when is STEM?" Congratulations, Mrs. Kosters!

Come out this weekend (Friday and Saturday) and catch the High School Play Production as they perform "The Alibis." Performance times for both days are 7:00 and it will be held in the high school theater - it should be a fun time to enjoy the show and appreciate our students' talents!

The National Honor Society is sponsoring their Dodgeball Tournament this Thursday in gym 2 starting at 6:00 - admission will be $2.00 to watch with all proceeds going to Feeding South Dakota. Come out and support a great cause and have some fun watching our students play dodgeball!

Last week's Shining Light was presented to Ms. Kayla Peplinski by Ms. Alexis Hauf. "I chose Kayla Peplinski to be the shining light because of her kind and fun personality. She’s been quite the delight to talk to in and outside of school. I think she’s doing an excellent job for her first year in this district. Not to mention I admire how Pinterest perfect her room is!"

The Fall Sports Banquet is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 21st beginning at 7:00 with a meal and followed up with the awards portion. It is sponsored by the Digger Booster Club - they would like to get an idea on the number to expect for the meal so please take a minute and fill out this survey.
