Lead-Deadwood School District

The HSGBB team will travel to Hill City on Tuesday, Feb. 20, to play the Rangers in the first round of region basketball. Game time will be 6:00. Mr. Nepodal

Kindergarten screening will be Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Lead-Deadwood Elementary School. Parents need to come into the Elementary School March 1-13 and register their children for Kindergarten before a screening appointment can be made. Information needed at registration includes a certified birth certificate and immunization records for your child. These two pieces of information must be on file at school before entrance will be allowed. Those students whose immunization records are not complete are eligible for registration, but immunizations must be completed and records in the school office before the first day of school for your child to begin. Please allow one hour for the screening. If you have any questions, please call the school office at 605-717-3884.

Update for today's basketball games vs. Custer - do to illness and an injury, we will NOT be playing our girls C team game today at 5:00. The annual silent auction is headed by Gary Linn, our student council advisor! Our high school wrestling triangular scheduled for tonight - Thursday, Feb. 8th - has now been turned into only being a Dual between Lead-Deadwood and St. Thomas More. Douglas will not be sending a team due to a rash of illnesses within their wrestling program. Here is the schedule: 5:00 - AAU Youth Wrestling Exhibition matches featuring our Little Digger Wrestlers 6:00 - Senior Night and Special Presentation of the new mat donated by Frank Pavich and company 6:15 - Warm-up/Mat time 6:30 - Line-ups/national anthem and start of the dual - we will wrestle girls first followed by the boys matches Come on out and support the Diggers! Mrs. Kelly Bachand has chosen to pass the Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light on to Mrs. Jennifer Scott this week! “I would like to pass the Shining Light to Ms. Jen this week. I appreciate that Ms. Jen always makes things fun in the classroom. She was very welcoming when I started. I want to thank her for all that she does.”

Our MSBB game on Monday, Feb. 12th vs Newell will be only a 7th grade game - Newell only has a 7th grade team. Game time is still 4:00 in gym 2 at the high school. Mr. Nepodal

A big Thank You to Frank Pavich for the donation of an amazing wrestling mat! Frank is the founder of Black Hills Nationals Wrestling Tournament and Camps Bringing quality wrestling tournaments and camps to the Black Hills of SD since 1992. Come out to support our Digger Wrestlers February 8th at 5:00pm during the home triangular and see the new mat! The home match is also Parent/Senior Night. Go Diggers!

Just a quick note on Saturday, Feb. 10 events: Our C team boys and girls teams are playing in the Spearfish Tourney this Saturday - our girls first game is at 9:00 and our boys 1st game is at 11:10. They will get a 2nd game as well but time will be based on how their first game goes. Our GBB JV and Varsity will be playing at home vs. Little Wound on Saturday with the JV game at 4:00 followed by the Varsity game at approximately 5:30. Our BBB varsity team will be playing Redfield at 10:00 AM as part of the Belle Fourche Classic. Thank you. Mr. Nepodal

Snowball Dance! February 9th - Gym 2 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm $5.00 per person

This week, Mr. Bill Snow passed the Lead-Deadwood Elementary Shining Light on to Mrs. Kelly Bachand. “Miss Kelly wears many hats in our district. She is a para for Early Childhood, she is the van driver, she delivers mail between our buildings and she has other countless duties. Every day, Miss Kelly shows up and does this with a smile!”

Quick reminder that our Evening for the Arts will be tonight - Monday, Jan. 29th - starting at 6:30 at the Homestake Opera House in Lead! Please come out and support our student artists as they perform in Oral Interp, One Play, Choir and Band plus take a look at the student art pieces on display in the lobby!
